Fill the Obama suggestion box

Posted in Liberty tagged , , , at 5:23 pm by Elaine Petrowski

Today I stumbled on  Barack Obama’s transition web site where “we the people” are invited to fill out a form so that we can detail our vision for America in the future.

I must admit that the cynic in me pushed immediately to the foreground, mumbling under her breath, “What the …?  He doesn’t have any ideas of his own… so he’s asking us?  Uh-oh … not good. Didn’t he just get elected because he’s supposed to be the smart one?”

But I give her a cup of coffee, push her into a chair and tell her to be quiet. And the hopeful me marvels joyously, giddily even, at this apparent fact:

We are being asked — actually asked — like fully-vested, card-carrying, registered, adult participants in this great, messy  DEMOCRACY — to contribute our thoughts, ideas, concerns and hopes about what should happen next in our own country.

as the site says:

‘The story of the campaign and this historic moment has been your story. It is about the great things we can do when we come together around a common purpose. The story of bringing this country together as a healed and united nation will be led by President-Elect Obama, but written by you. The millions of you who built this campaign from the ground up, and echoed your call for the change you wanted to see implemented by the Obama Administration – this process of setting up that new government is about you.’

Will wonders never cease?

(Of course, you could just credit an internet-savvy transition team with a pretty smooth PR move. But then you’d get a cup of coffee and a seat next to the cynical me.)

And, yes, I did offer suggestions … Thirteen, to be exact, before I ran out of steam.

So how about you?  (Especially those of you who did not vote for Obama.)

Will you sulk and complain… or have your voice heard again?

And do pass it on.

I can’t help but contrast this with a news clip I saw of Bush in his last campaign. on a Philadelphia rope line, someone said, “Mr. President, I think … ”
Bush cut him off with “Nobody cares what you think”, and kept on moving
